About Berard France

In 1892 Marius Bérard, lover of wood, creates a factory of objects in the drôme. It settles down in Saint Laurent in Royans, where the water of the river allows to provide the energy to the machines.

In the middle of the Royans-Vercors forest and working with local logging companies, Marius develops many wooden products and quickly involves his sons in the family adventure.

The sons of Marius, Paul, and Henri strongly develop the company and direct the manufacture in different universes. Everyday objects are made: heels, soles, cutlery, salad bowls, and other kitchen utensils. Requirement and know-how are de rigueur. In 1920, a tourie was created in the workshop to cover all the know-how of wood.

Jean Derbier Paul's son-in-law, Danielle, Monique, and Jean Henri's children take over the management of the company and continue to develop Maison Bérard in two major sectors: the manufacture of objects for the kitchen and the manufacture of skis at the beginning of the 1960s taught by one of the Rossignol brothers.

Christine, the great-granddaughter of Marius Bérard then strongly specializes the company in the world of cooking and develops a large number of products in different wood species, intended to facilitate everyday life and promote authentic cuisine. The manufacture of wooden skis died in 1975, with the disappearance of the market.

From the 50s, the House has links with the south of France where many businesses are developing around the olive tree. It is by developing one of these partnerships that the Bérard family will learn to know and work this strong, rare and unique wood that grows only in the Mediterranean basin. After 1975, the olive tree becomes preponderant in the company with other noble woods such as boxwood and beech.

In an ecological approach, Bérard has developed various workshops around the Mediterranean basin where are carried out the most important manual operations: in Italy, France, Spain, Albania or Tunisia. The craftsmen work at the closest of the trees to optimize the transport. Olive trees are meticulously selected to ensure wood stability over time. The products are mainly made in the branches of the tree after the natural maintenance cut. Semi-finished, the products are then finished in the historic House of the Drôme where currently a dozen people work.

The handmade is an integral part of the work of the olive tree and hardwoods. Our craftsmen hold unique know-how that is passed on from generation to generation. We regularly improve our production techniques to push our know-how to excellence.

We are committed to developing products for lovers of gourmet and convivial cuisine in a spirit of sharing and authenticity that we cultivate in the South of France, since 1892. Our new ranges, our sculptural pieces are developed with designers who emphasize the authenticity of our know-how (La Racine studio). Each new product is an opportunity for us to bring more practicality and pleasure for your daily cooking.
